What Is LaunchPad?
(by Roger Moorgate - rogermoorgate@hotmail.com)

LaunchPad is just a simple indexing web-page that provides direct links to useful and interesting sites on the internet (with the focus on science and cloning).  Commercial index sites/launch pads (e.g. AOL and MSN) do not appear to link to each other, or to the most interesting science and cloning sites.  So, in light of this, I decided to create my own internet launch pad (hosted by the RCN).  This launch pad was designed to be my homepage, therefore, there are no graphics (so that the page loads up quickly) and no adverts or annoying pop-ups (unlike AOL and MSN).  As a scientist who works on vertebrate cloning, I just want a simple homepage that loads quickly and lets me go straight to the web pages I use most frequently. Every day I need to login to my email accounts at Hotmail and Yahoo, skim through the main science and general news, and quickly check if any new messages have been posted on various cloning discussion boards. I believe that one of the most useful features of the LaunchPad, is the usage of the Google search engine, without doubt the best search engine on the internet today.  I also listed all the major internet indexing sites (e.g. Yahoo) to allow me to look for general things that have nothing to do with science or cloning.  I use the LaunchPad as my homepage, and thus it is in continuous development.  If you find this page useful, feel free to use it as your homepage.  If you think I've missed something, let me know and I'll add it.
