Who's Afraid of Human Cloning?
By Professor G. Pence
Quite literally the best book on the ethics of Human Cloning. Pence (a professor of bioethics) presents a clear, concise and
compelling argument advocating human cloning. Pence has an
almost mystical ability to open new lines of reasoning and perspective,
to examine the controversial issue of reproductive human cloning.

The
Second Creation
By Professor I. Wilmut and C. Tudge
Ian Wilmut cloned Dolly the Sheep in 1996. Dolly was the first
mammal ever cloned from adult cells.
This well written book principally examines the history and science of
animal cloning, but also touches on the ethical implications of human
cloning (which Wilmut is very much against). Read

AF
and Nuclear Transfer in Mammals
By Dr. D. Wolf (Editor)
Dr. Wolf was the first person ever to clone primates, but at $145 this
scientific textbook on nuclear transfer (cloning) is only for scientists, infertility doctors and the
true cloning enthusiasts. The
book provides historical perspective on the evolution of assisted
reproductive techniques, reviews the basic biological processes involved,
details the latest applications in the clinic, and discusses the future
of reproductive technologies.

Remaking
Eden: How Genetic Engineering and Cloning Will Transform The American
Family
By Professor L. Silver
Silver is a professor of genetics and an excellent
writer. In his brilliant, provocative, and invaluable book, Dr.
Silver takes a cautiously optimistic look at the scientific advances
that will allow us to engineer life in ways that were unimaginable just
a few short years ago. Indeed,
many of the concepts he discusses go far beyond reproductive human
cloning, and into the realm of genetically engineered humans.

Clone:
The Road to Dolly and the Path Ahead
By Gina Kolata
This
book (by award-winning science writer Gina Kolata) provides a clear
account of the technical background to Dolly's birth, and covers the
history and social conflicts of cloning. She weaves stories of fraud,
scandal, irreproducible results, and pig-headed determination, into a
solid framework of philosophy, science, and ethics. [Modified from editor's
statement].

The
Naked Clone
By Professor J. C. Kunich
Kunich
argues the need for rational, scientific evaluations of reproductive and
therapeutic cloning, before fear and misunderstanding lead to bans that
could jeopardize personal liberties such as privacy, reproduction, and
freedom of expression.
"Absolute genius! Professor Kunich takes a look at all the
nonsense swirling around human cloning, and rips the mask off of it.
With brilliant clarity and insight, this book exposes the many fallacies
riddling the anti-cloning movement. Most important of all, Kunich's book
proves beyond a shadow of a doubt that if the government bans cloning,
some of our most precious civil liberties may be next. This is a book
for the ages, but especially our age." (R. Barts)

Cloning:
For and Against
M. L. Rantala and Dr. A. J. Milgram
A
collection of 54 articles by scientists, ethicists, legal experts, and
religious leaders who explore the many benefits and costs of
reproductive cloning. The essays present both sides of the argument so
that readers can test the strengths and weaknesses of the divergent
views for themselves. Some
of the articles, (especially one by Professor Pence) are exemplary,
while others are somewhat narrow minded and lack logical or useful
information.

In
Vitro Fertilisation
By Dr. K. Elder
This
is the indispensable and practical guide used by many clinical
embryologists and reproductive specialists.
Cloning (via nuclear transfer) is a reproductive
technique, and this is the essential handbook of the advanced
reproductive technologies and protocols used in a modern fertility
laboratory. In depth
description of ICSI which is almost identical to nuclear transfer
(cloning), secures this handbooks position in the RCN's top 10
"cloning" books.

Human
Cloning: Religious Responses
By R. C. Turner
One of the better Religious books
tackling the question of reproductive human cloning.
A dozen Christian theologians discuss the issues, and
offer surprisingly diverse views of whether cloning is "playing
God" and whether it is something to be welcomed as a scientific
advance, or feared as a manipulation of gods creation. Overall,
the collection offers provocative views of an emerging moral issue.
Quite
highly recommended.

The
Ethics of Human Cloning
By Leon Kass
Kass was one of the lead figures arguing
of the "repugnance" of IVF 20 years ago.
He is now the lead figure in the anti-reproductive human cloning
camp. His book has few
beneficial attributes. Some of his ethical arguments do contain a
degree of substance, but Kass is far from convincing.
Nevertheless, his position as the leader of the anti-reproductive human cloning
camp, secures him a place in the RCN's top 10 cloning books.
